حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَيْثَمَةَ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ مابَهْرَامَ الْأَيْذَجِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا نُوحُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَ: ثنا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «كَيْفَ بِكَ إِذَا بِكَ بَقِيتَ فِي حُثَالَةٍ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَوْمٌ مَرِجَتْ عُهُودُهُمْ وَأَمَانَاتُهُمْ، وَاخْتَلَفُوا وَصَارُوا هَكَذَا؟» ، وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ، قَالَ: مَا تَأْمُرُنِي يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟، قَالَ: عَلَيْكَ بِمَا تَعْرِفُ، وَدَعْ مَا تُنْكِرُ، وَعَلَيْكَ بِخَاصَّةِ نَفْسِكَ، وَدَعْ عَوَامَّهُمْ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How will you be when you remain among the worthless dregs of people, a people whose covenants and trusts have become corrupted, and who fall into disagreement and become like this?" And he interlaced his fingers. He said: O Messenger of Allah, what do you command me? He said: "Adopt what you know, leave what you consider evil, concern yourself with your own self in particular, and leave the common people (and their affairs)."
