Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to a cloth seller and bought a shirt from him for four dirhams. He (peace and blessings be upon him) came out wearing it and met a man from the Ansar, who said: O Messenger of Allah! Clothe me with a shirt; may Allah clothe you with the garments of Paradise. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) took off the shirt and put it on him. Then he went back to the shopkeeper and bought a shirt from him for four dirhams, and two dirhams remained with him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came across a slave girl crying on the road, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What makes you cry?" She said: O Messenger of Allah! My household gave me two dirhams to buy flour with, but they were lost. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the two remaining dirhams. Then she turned back, still crying, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) called her and said: "What makes you cry when you have taken the two dirhams?" She said: I fear they will beat me. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) walked with her to her household and greeted with salam, and they recognised his (peace and blessings be upon him) voice. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted again, then greeted a third time, and they replied. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did you hear the first greeting?" They said: Yes, but we wanted you to favour us with more greetings. May our fathers and mothers be sacrificed for you, what brought you here? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This girl feared that you would beat her." Her owner said: Then she is free for the sake of Allah, in return for your walking here with her. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them glad tidings of good and of Paradise. Then he said: "Allah Almighty has put blessing in these ten (dirhams): Allah clothed His Prophet with a shirt, clothed a man of the Ansar with a shirt, and through it Allah freed a slave. And praise be to Allah, who granted us this by His power."
