Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A man from Abyssinia came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to ask him something, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask, and seek to understand." He said: O Messenger of Allah! You have been favoured over us in appearance, colour and prophethood; if I believe just as you believed and act just as you acted, will I be with you in Paradise? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You have been favoured over us in appearance, colour and prophethood; do you think that if I believe just as you believed and act just as you acted, I will be with you in Paradise? He said: "Yes." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the whiteness of the black man will be seen in Paradise from a distance of a thousand years' journey." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever says 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but Allah) will have a covenant with Allah because of it, and whoever says 'Subhan Allah wa bi-hamdihi' (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him), one hundred and twenty-four thousand good deeds will be written for him." At this a man said: Then, O Messenger of Allah, how could anyone be destroyed after this? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man will come on the Day of Resurrection with deeds so heavy that if they were placed on a mountain they would weigh it down; then one blessing from among the blessings of Allah will stand up and almost consume all of those deeds, unless Allah bestows His grace through His mercy." And this surah was revealed: "Has there come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning?" [Surah al-Insan: 1] up to "and a great kingdom" [Surah al-Insan: 20]. The Abyssinian said: Will my eyes too see in Paradise what your eyes will see? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." At this he began to weep until his soul departed. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lowering him into his grave with his own hand.
