حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، وَخَلَفُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْعُكْبَرِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا مُعَلَّى بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ لَيْثِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: لَقَدْ أَتَى عَلَيْنَا زَمَانٌ، وَمَا يَرَى أَحَدُنَا أَنَّهُ أَحَقُّ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِآخِرِهِ أَصْبَحْنَا وَالدِّينَارُ وَالدِّرْهَمُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَحَدِنَا مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ، وَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِذَا ضَنَّ النَّاسُ بِالدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ، وَتَبَايَعُوا بِالْعِينَةِ، وَتَبِعُوا أَذْنَابَ الْبَقَرِ أَرْسَلَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ذُلًّا لَا يَرْفَعُهُ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يُرَاجِعُوا دِينَهُمْ»
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: A time passed over us when none of us thought that he had more right to the dinar and the dirham than his Muslim brother, until, when we reached its end, we came to be in a state where the dinar and the dirham were dearer to one of us than his Muslim brother. And I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When people become miserly with the dinar and the dirham, trade by 'inah, and follow the tails of cattle, Allah Almighty will send upon them a humiliation that He will not lift from them until they return to their religion."
