حَدَّثَنَا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا، مَسْعَدَةُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْعَطَّارُ، قَالَا: ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ، ثنا صَدَقَةُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ مَوْلَى الْعُمَرِيِّينَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قُدَامَةَ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجُمَحِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَخْتَلِفُ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: فَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُمْ: " أَنَّ عَبْدًا مِنْ عِبَادِ اللهِ، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ وَلِعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ، فَأُعْضِلَتْ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ فَلَمْ يَدْرِيَا كَيْفَ يَكْتُبَانِهَا؟ فَصَعِدَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَقَالَا: يَا رَبَّنَا إِنَّ عَبْدَكَ، قَالَ مَقَالَةً لَا نَدْرِي كَيْفَ نَكْتُبُهَا، فَقَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا قَالَ عَبْدُهُ: مَاذَا قَالَ عَبْدِي؟ قَالَا: يَا رَبُّ إِنَّهُ، قَالَ: يَا رَبِّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ كَمَا يَنْبَغِي لِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكِ، وَلِعَظِيمِ سُلْطَانِكَ، فَقَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَهُمَا: اكْتُبَاهَا كَمَا قَالَ عَبْدِي حَتَّى يَلْقَانِي عَبْدِي فَأَجْزِيَهُ بِهَا "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told them that one of the servants of Allah said: "O my Lord, to You belongs praise as befits the majesty of Your Face and the greatness of Your authority." This became difficult for the two angels, and they did not know how to write it. So they ascended to the heaven and said: O our Lord, Your servant has said something that we do not know how to write. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, who knew best what His servant had said, asked: What did My servant say? They said: O Lord, he said: "O my Lord, to You belongs praise as befits the majesty of Your Face and the greatness of Your authority." So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said to them both: "Write it as My servant said it, until My servant meets Me and I reward him for it."
