Yazid bin al-Asamm (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A man invited us and brought us thirteen dabbs (spiny-tailed lizards). In the morning I went to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and told him about it, and the people sitting with him talked a great deal about it, until one of them said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I neither declare it lawful nor unlawful." At this Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: What an evil thing you have said! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sent precisely to declare things lawful and unlawful. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was at the house of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), and with him (peace and blessings be upon him) were Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), a woman, and Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). A dining cloth was brought on which there was bread and the meat of a dabb. He (peace and blessings be upon him) held back his hand and said: "This is a meat that I do not eat, but you eat." So Khalid bin al-Walid, Fadl bin Abbas and the woman ate, while Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I will not eat food that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) has not eaten. So Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) did not eat.
