حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ، ثنا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، عَنِ الْجَرَّاحِ بْنِ الْمِنْهَالِ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ فِي حَلْقَةٍ فِيهَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ، فَذَكَرْنَا الْقَدَرَ فَغَضِبَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ غَضَبًا شَدِيدًا، وَقَالَ: لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّ فِي الْقَوْمِ أَحَدًا مِنْهُمْ لَأَخَذْتُهُ؛ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَا بَعَثَ اللهُ نَبِيًّا فِي قَوْمٍ ثُمَّ يَقْبِضُهُ إِلَّا جَعَلَ بَعْدَهُ فَتْرَةً، وَمَلَأَ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْفَتْرَةِ جَهَنَّمَ»
Sa'id bin Jubayr (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated: I was in a study circle in which Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was also present. We mentioned divine decree (qadar), and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) became extremely angry and said: If I knew that any of them (the deniers of divine decree) were present in this gathering, I would seize him. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Allah Almighty did not send any prophet among a people and then take him back, except that He placed after him a fatrah (an interval period), and He filled Hell from (the people of) that interval."
