Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I slept in the house of my maternal aunt Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was with her that night, so that I could see how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed at night. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) talked with his family for a while, then slept. When the last third of the night, or half of it, remained, he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up, looked towards the sky and recited this verse: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day there are signs for people of understanding" [Surah Al Imran: 190], until he completed the recitation of those verses. Then he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) got up, performed ablution, used the miswak, and then prayed eleven rak'ahs. Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the call to prayer, so he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) prayed two rak'ahs, then went out and led the people in the morning (Fajr) prayer.
