It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the day of Badr the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had with him a hundred water-carrying camels, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) had two horses with him: al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him) would ride one of them, and Mus'ab bin Umayr and Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with them both) would take turns riding the other. (Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both)) said: His (peace and blessings be upon him) Companions would take turns riding the water-carrying camels on the way, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi (may Allah be pleased with him), the confederate of Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), would take turns riding one water-carrying camel.
