Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions came during the truce that existed between him (peace and blessings be upon him) and the polytheists. The polytheists were at the door of Dar al-Nadwah, on the side facing the Black Stone, and they (the polytheists) had been saying that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions had become weak and emaciated. When they touched the Black Stone, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "They are saying that you have become weak and emaciated, so walk briskly (raml) for the first three circuits, so that they see that you have strength." So when they touched the Black Stone, they lifted their feet and walked briskly, and the polytheists began saying to one another: Are these not the ones whom they claimed were weak and emaciated? They are not even content with walking; they are running!
