حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا تَفْتَخِرُوا بِآبَائِكُمِ الَّذِينَ مَضَوْا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَلْخُرْءُ يُدَهْدِهُ الْجُعَلُ بِأَنْفِهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُمْ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not boast about your forefathers who passed away in the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic ignorance). By the One in whose hand is my soul! The lump of dung which the dung beetle rolls with its nose is better than them."
