Salamah said: My father, Budayl bin Warqa' (may Allah be pleased with him), gave me this letter and said: My son, this is the letter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so take good care of it, and you will always remain in goodness as long as it is with you: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), to Budayl bin Warqa', Busr and the chiefs of Banu Amr. I praise before you Allah, besides whom there is no true god. To proceed: I have not been remiss in your affairs, nor have I neglected any right of yours. The most honoured of my people in Tihamah in my sight are you, and the closest to me in kinship, and those of the Mutayyabin who follow you. For whoever of you emigrates, I have secured the same as I secured for myself, even if he emigrates within his own land, not residing in Makkah except for Umrah or Hajj. And when I made peace with you, I did not neglect any right of yours, and you are neither afraid of me nor restricted. To proceed: Alqamah bin Ulathah and the two sons of Hawdhah have accepted Islam and given the pledge of allegiance, and they have emigrated together with those of Ikrimah who follow them, and for those of you who follow them the same has been secured as for themselves. And indeed you are of one another forever, both in the Hill (outside the sanctuary) and in the Haram (sanctuary)." Abu Muhammad said: My father told me; he said: "I heard our elders say that it is the handwriting of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him)."
