حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الثَّعْلَبِيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَعْلَى الْأَسْلَمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُمَا، قَالَ: قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَتُهْلَكُ الْقَرْيَةُ فِيهِمِ الصَّالِحُونَ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» فَقِيلَ: لِمَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: «بِتَهاوُنِهِمْ وسُكُوتِهِمْ عَنْ مَعَاصِي اللهِ»
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: It was said: O Messenger of Allah, will a town be destroyed while there are righteous people in it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." It was said: Why, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Because of their negligence and their silence about the acts of disobedience to Allah."
