حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ح، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ خَالِدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ الرَّقِّيُّ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجُعْفِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، ثنا النَّضْرُ أَبُو عُمَرَ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «اللهُمَّ أَيِّدِ الْإِسْلَامَ بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَوْ بِأَبِي جَهْلِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ» زَادَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: فَأَصْبَحَ عُمَرُ فَغَدَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَسْلَمَ يَوْمَئِذٍ. قَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: «اللهُمَّ أَعَزَّ الْإِسْلَامَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: "O Allah! Strengthen Islam through Umar bin al-Khattab or through Abu Jahl bin Hisham." Abu Kurayb added in his narration that the next morning Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam that very day. Abu Kurayb narrated (the words of the supplication) in his narration as: "O Allah! Honour Islam."
