Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11606 — The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in a house wearing only a waist-wrap, which he had placed between his legs in such a way that his thighs were uncovered. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked permission; he was given permission and came in. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came; he too was given permission and came in. Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came; he too was given permission, but when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he got up quickly until he entered the house. Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) found this hard, and when the people had left she said: O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr and Umar came in and you did not change your state, but when Uthman came in you stood up. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah! Should I not feel modesty before the one before whom even the angels feel modesty? Indeed, the angels feel modesty before Uthman."
