Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: When Abu Sufyan and the polytheists turned back from Uhud and reached al-Rawha', they said: You neither killed Muhammad nor brought back the young women with you; what you did was very bad. This reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people (to pursue them), and they set out until they reached Hamra' al-Asad or Bi'r Abi Uyaynah. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "Those who responded to Allah and the Messenger after injury had struck them." And Abu Sufyan had said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Our appointment is the fair of Badr, where you killed our companions." So the coward turned back, while the brave one took up provisions for both fighting and trade and set off; they found no one there and they traded. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "So they returned with favour from Allah and bounty; no harm touched them" [Surah Al Imran: 174].
