Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11581 — a man asked the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ، أَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، ثنا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ تُوُفِّيَتْ فَهَلْ يَنْفَعُهَا أَنْ أَتَصَدَّقَ عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ» فَقَالَ: إِنَّ لِي مَخْرَفَةً فَأُشْهِدُكَ أَنِّي قَدْ تَصَدَّقْتُ بِهَا عَنْهَا. قَالَ رَوْحٌ: الْمخرفةُ النَّخْلُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that his mother had died, so would it benefit her if he gave charity on her behalf? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He said: I have an orchard (makhrafah), and I make you a witness that I have given it in charity on her behalf. (The narrator) Rawh said: Makhrafah means a date-palm orchard.
