Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has favoured Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) over the inhabitants of the heavens and the inhabitants of the earth." A man said to him: "O Abu Abbas, what is his superiority over the inhabitants of the heavens?" He said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says to the inhabitants of the heavens: 'And whoever of them says, "I am a god besides Him," that one We will recompense with Hell; thus do We recompense the wrongdoers' [Surah al-Anbiya: 29], whereas Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): 'Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory, that Allah may forgive you your past and future shortcomings' [Surah al-Fath: 2], the whole verse." Then it was said to him: "O Abu Abbas, what is his superiority over the prophets?" He said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people' [Surah Ibrahim: 4], whereas Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him): 'And We have not sent you except to all mankind as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner' [Surah Saba: 28]. So Allah sent him to both jinn and mankind."
