Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Shall I not tell you about the (travel) prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? We said: Of course. He said: When the sun passed its zenith while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was at his halting place, he would combine Zuhr and Asr before mounting; and if the sun did not pass its zenith while he was at his halting place, he would keep travelling until the time of Asr came, then dismount and combine Zuhr and Asr. And when the time of Maghrib came while he was at his halting place, he would combine Maghrib and Isha; and if the time of Maghrib did not come while he was at his halting place, he would remain mounted until the time of Isha came, then dismount and combine the two.
