Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11432 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a message

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Wahshi, the killer of Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him), inviting him to Islam. He sent back the reply: "O Muhammad, how can you invite me to your religion when you claim that whoever kills, or associates partners with Allah, or commits adultery will meet the penalty of sin, the punishment will be doubled for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein forever in disgrace, and I have done all of that? Do you find any concession for me?" Upon this Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "Except for one who repents, believes and does righteous deeds; for such people Allah will replace their evil deeds with good deeds, and Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful." [Surah Al-Furqan: 70] Wahshi said: "O Muhammad, this is a very hard condition, 'except for one who repents, believes and does righteous deeds'; perhaps I will not be able to fulfil it." Upon this Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whomever He wills." [Surah Al-Nisa: 48] Wahshi said: "O Muhammad, I see that this (forgiveness) depends on His will, so I do not know whether I will be forgiven or not. Is there anything other than this?" Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah; indeed, Allah forgives all sins; He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful." [Surah Al-Zumar: 53] Wahshi said: "This is enough." So he came and accepted Islam. The people said: "O Messenger of Allah, what if we commit the same sins that Wahshi committed?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This verse is for all the Muslims in general."
