Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 11419 — I asked Ata' bin Abi Rabah about a man

Ayyub bin Sulayman al-Hawzi said: I asked Ata' bin Abi Rabah about a man who mentions a woman and says: "On the day I marry her, she is irrevocably divorced." Ata' (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "There is no divorce for one who does not own the marriage contract, and there is no manumission for one who does not own the slave." He narrated this from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and traced it back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
