Sayyiduna Bilal bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on one of his journeys, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to relieve himself, and it was his (peace and blessings be upon him) habit that when he went out to relieve himself he would go far away. I brought him (peace and blessings be upon him) a vessel of water, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) went on ahead. Then I heard near him (peace and blessings be upon him) the sound of men quarrelling and a clamour such as I had never heard before. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Bilal!" I said: (Here I am,) Bilal. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have water with you?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You did well." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) took the water from me and performed ablution. I said: O Messenger of Allah! I heard near you men quarrelling and such a clamour that I have never heard sharper tongues than theirs. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Muslim jinn and the polytheist jinn quarrelled before me. They asked me to settle them, so I settled the Muslim jinn in the high lands (the hill settlements) and the polytheist jinn in the low lands." Abdullah bin Kathir said: I asked Kathir: What are the jalas and the ghawr? He said: "The jalas is the villages and the mountains, and the ghawr is the land between the mountains and the seas." Kathir said: "We have not seen anyone afflicted in the jalas except that he came through safely, nor anyone afflicted in the ghawr except that he barely came through safely."
