Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed sheep among his Companions on that day, and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) received a he-goat, which he slaughtered on his own behalf. Then, when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood at Arafat, he ordered Rabi'ah bin Umayyah bin Khalaf, who stood beneath the forelegs of his (peace and blessings be upon him) she-camel; he was a man with a loud voice. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Call out: O people, do you know which month this is?" So he called out, and the people said: "The sacred month." He said: "Call out: do you know which city this is?" The people said: "The sacred city." He said: "Announce: do you know which day this is?" The people said: "The day of the Greater Hajj." He said: "Announce that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) says: 'Indeed Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has made your blood and your wealth sacred to you, just as the sanctity of this month of yours, the sanctity of this city of yours, and the sanctity of this day of yours.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) completed his Hajj, and when he stood at Arafat he said: "This is the place of standing, and all of Arafat is a place of standing." And when he stood on Quzah he said: "This is the place of standing, and all of Muzdalifah is a place of standing."
