Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 10958 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Divorce

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزِّنْباعِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَا: ثنا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا طَلَاقَ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ مِلْكٍ، وَلَا عِتْقَ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ مِلْكٍ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Divorce only takes effect after ownership (marriage), and manumission too only takes effect after ownership."
