حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْجَارُودِيُّ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْكِنْدِيُّ، ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ سَوَادَةَ النَّخَعِيُّ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: سَمِعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَوْتَ رَجُلَيْنِ وَهُمَا يَقُولَانِ:

ولَا يَزَالُ حَوَارِيٌّ تَلُوحُ عِظَامُهُ ... زَوَى الْحَرْبُ عَنْهُ أَنْ يُجَنَّ فَيُقْبَرَا
فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُمَا، فَقِيلَ: مُعَاوِيَةُ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ أرْكِسْهُمَا فِي الْفِتْنَةِ رِكْسًا وَدُعَّهُمَا إِلَى النَّارِ دَعًّا»

ولَا يَزَالُ حَوَارِيٌّ تَلُوحُ عِظَامُهُ ... زَوَى الْحَرْبُ عَنْهُ أَنْ يُجَنَّ فَيُقْبَرَا
فَسَأَلَ عَنْهُمَا، فَقِيلَ: مُعَاوِيَةُ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ أرْكِسْهُمَا فِي الْفِتْنَةِ رِكْسًا وَدُعَّهُمَا إِلَى النَّارِ دَعًّا»
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the voices of two men who were reciting this (verse):

"There will always be some hawari (devoted helper) whose bones remain visible (on the battlefield); war has kept him from being shrouded and buried."
He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who are these two? It was said: Mu'awiyah and Amr bin al-As. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, cast them headlong into trial, and drive them forcefully towards Hell."
