Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 1062 — Bilal, the mu'adhdhin, told me; he said

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو حُصَيْنٍ الْقَاضِي، وَالْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا يَحْيَى الْحِمَّانِيُّ، ثنا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي بِلَالٌ الْمُؤَذِّنُ، قَالَ: أَذَّنْتُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ فَلَمْ يَأْتِ أَحَدٌ، ثُمَّ نَادَيْتُ فَلَمْ يَأْتِ أَحَدٌ، ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا لَهُمْ؟» فَقُلْتُ: مَنَعَهُمُ الْبَرْدُ، فَقَالَ: «اللهُمَّ احْسُرْ عَنْهُمُ الْبَرْدَ» فَقَالَ بِلَالٌ: فَأَشْهَدُ أَنِّي رَأَيْتُهُمْ يَتَرَوَّحُونَ فِي الصُّبْحِ مِنَ الْحَرِّ
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), the mu'adhdhin, told me; he said: I gave the call to prayer (adhan) on a cold night, and no one came. Then I called again, and still no one came; this happened three times. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the matter with them?" I said: The cold has kept them back. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, remove the cold from them." Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I bear witness that I saw them fanning themselves because of the heat at the time of Fajr.
