Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 10576 — When Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas

Maymun said: When Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) lost his sight, he would say to the one who led him by the hand: When you take me in to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), line me up with his couch, then let go of my hand, so that Mu'awiyah does not gloat over me. One day he did so, and Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to one of his companions in the gathering: He will surely be grieved. When he sat with him on his couch, he said: O Ibn Abbas, may Allah reward you (for your loss) in al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both). He asked: Has he died? He said: Yes. He said: "May the mercy of Allah and His good pleasure be upon him, and may Allah join him with his righteous predecessors. Listen, by Allah, O Mu'awiyah! His death will not fill your grave, nor will you eat his provision, nor will you live forever after him. And we were struck with a loss even greater than him, (the death of) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), yet Allah did not forsake us after him (peace and blessings be upon him)."
