قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْجُرَشِيِّ ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنِ النَّوَّاسِ بْنِ سَمْعَانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : فُتِحَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتْحٌ ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، سُيِّبَتِ الْخَيْلُ ، وَوُضِعَ السِّلَاحُ ، وَقَدْ وَضَعَتِ الْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ، وَقَالُوا : لَا قِتَالَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْآنَ جَاءَ الْقِتَالُ ، لَا يَزَالُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُزِيغُ قُلُوبَ أَقْوَامٍ تُقَاتِلُونَهُمْ ، يَرْزُقُ اللهُ مِنْهُمْ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللهِ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ، وَعُقْرُ دَارِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِالشَّامِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Nawwas bin Sam'an (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was granted a (great) victory, so I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The horses have been set free, the weapons have been put down (sheathed), and the war has laid down its burdens, and the people are saying that there is no more fighting and jihad left." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(The truth is that) now the real time for fighting has come. Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will continue to make the hearts of some peoples swerve (from the truth), whom you will fight, and through them Allah Almighty will grant you provision (in the form of spoils), until the command of Allah (the Hour or the death of the believers) comes while things are so. And remember that the centre of the abode of the believers is the land of Sham."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو طَالِبٍ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ أَبُو عُتْبَةَ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : لَا تَزَالُ عِصَابَةٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُقَاتِلُونَ عَلَى أَبْوَابِ دِمَشْقَ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، وَعَلَى أَبْوَابِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَمَا حَوْلَهُ ، لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ .
وَزَادَ ابْنُ حَمْدَانَ : لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ خِذْلَانُ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ .
4475 \ 2 - وَقَالَ تَمَّامٌ فِي فَوَائِدِهِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ خَذْلَمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، ثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، ثَنَا ابْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ ، بِهِ .
4475 \ 3 - وَأَخْرَجَهُ ابْنُ عَدِيٍّ فِي الْكَامِلِ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ ، وَقَالَ : لَا يَرْوِيهِ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ غَيْرُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ .
4475 \ 4 - قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ فِي تَارِيخِ دَارَيَّا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ خَذْلَمٍ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَلَبَ إِسْنَادَهُ ، جَعَلَهُ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، وَالصَّوَابُ : عَامِرٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ .
4475 \ 5 - وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ذَكْوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، مُخْتَصَرًا ، وَلَفْظُهُ : لَا يَزَالُ لِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ عِصَابَةٌ عَلَى الْحَقِّ ، لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ خِلَافُ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ .
وَزَادَ ابْنُ حَمْدَانَ : لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ خِذْلَانُ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، ظَاهِرِينَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ إِلَى أَنْ تَقُومَ السَّاعَةُ .

4475 \ 4 - قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ عَبْدُ الْجَبَّارِ فِي تَارِيخِ دَارَيَّا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ خَذْلَمٍ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَلَبَ إِسْنَادَهُ ، جَعَلَهُ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ ، وَالصَّوَابُ : عَامِرٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ .
4475 \ 5 - وَقَدْ أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ذَكْوَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، مُخْتَصَرًا ، وَلَفْظُهُ : لَا يَزَالُ لِهَذَا الْأَمْرِ عِصَابَةٌ عَلَى الْحَقِّ ، لَا يَضُرُّهُمْ خِلَافُ مَنْ خَذَلَهُمْ ، حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group of my Ummah will continue to fight (for the true religion) at the gates of Damascus and its surroundings, and at the gates of Bayt al-Maqdis and its outskirts, and those who abandon them will not be able to harm them in the least." And Ibn Hamdan added in his narration: "The betrayal of those who abandon them will not harm them; they will remain prevailing and manifest upon the truth until the Hour is established."
Imam Tammam recorded it in his book al-Fawa'id through Ahmad bin Sulayman bin Ayyub from al-Walid bin Abbad. Ibn Adi narrated it in al-Kamil through the route of Hisham bin Ammar from Isma'il bin Ayyash, and he said: No one other than Isma'il bin Ayyash narrates it from al-Walid with these words. I (Ibn Hajar, the author) say: Abu Ali Abd al-Jabbar narrated it in Tarikh Darayya through the route of Ahmad bin Sulayman, but he jumbled the names in its chain and gave it as "Asim al-Ahwal from Abu Muslim al-Khawlani", whereas the correct chain is "Amir al-Ahwal from Abu Salih". Imam Ahmad narrated it in brief through the route of al-Qa'qa' from Abu Salih Dhakwan in these words: "There will always be a group standing firm upon the truth for the sake of this matter (the religion); the opposition of those who abandon them will not harm them, until the command of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, comes."

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ ، ثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحَضْرَمِيَّ أَيَّامَ ابْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ يَخْطُبُ ، وَهُوَ يَقُولُ : يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ ، أَبْشِرُوا فَإِنَّ فُلَانًا أَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : يَكُونُ قَوْمٌ مِنْ آخِرِ أُمَّتِي يُعْطَوْنَ مِنَ الْأَجْرِ مِثْلَ مَا يُعْطَى أَوَّلُهُمْ ، يُقَاتِلُونَ أَهْلَ الْفِتَنِ ، يُنْكِرُونَ الْمُنْكَرَ " وَأَنْتُمْ هُمْ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو الْبَخْتَرِيِّ : أَخْطَأَتِ اسْتُكَ الْحُفْرَةَ .
It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman al-Hadrami that during the days (of the uprising) of Ibn al-Ash'ath he said while delivering a sermon: "O people of Sham! Rejoice, for so-and-so has informed me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'In the last period of my Ummah there will be people who will be given a share of reward like that given to its first ones (the righteous predecessors); they will fight those involved in the trials and will root out evils.' And (O people of Sham!) you are those people." On hearing this, Abu al-Bakhtari said to him: "Your backside has missed the hole (that is, you have missed the mark and said something entirely wrong and out of place)."
Imam Musaddad narrated this narration in his Musnad. Allamah al-Busiri declared its chain da'if (weak) in Ithaf al-Khiyarah al-Maharah because of the confusion (ikhtilat, deterioration of memory) of Ata bin al-Sa'ib; however, some supporting reports for the theme of reward for the last people of the Ummah also exist in other books of hadith.
