قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنِي شَبَابَةُ بْنُ سَوَّارٍ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْيَمَ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَنْطَلِقُ أَنَا وَأُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ إِلَى أَصْنَامِ قُرَيْشٍ الَّتِي حَوْلَ الْكَعْبَةِ ، فَنَأْتِي الْعَذِرَاتِ ، فَنَأْخُذُ حُرَيْرَاقَ بِأَيْدِينَا ، فَنَنْطَلِقُ بِهِ إِلَى أَصْنَامِ قُرَيْشٍ فَنُلَطِّخُهَا ، فَيُصْبِحُونَ فَيَقُولُونَ : مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا بِآلِهَتِنَا ؟ فَيَنْطَلِقُونَ إِلَيْهَا وَيَغْسِلُونَهَا بِاللَّبَنِ وَالْمَاءِ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and I used to go to those idols of Quraysh that were (set up) around the Ka'bah. We would go to the places of filth and take liquid excrement (filth) in our hands, then take it to the idols of Quraysh and smear them with that impurity. When morning came, they (the polytheists) would say: 'Who has done this to our gods?' Then they would rush to those idols and wash them clean with milk and water."

أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْكَعْبَةَ فَرَأَى فِيهَا تَصَاوِيرَ ، فَقَالَ لِي : ابْتَغِ لِي مَاءً ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَاءٍ فِي دَلْوٍ ، فَجَعَلَ يَبُلُّ بِهِ الثَّوْبَ ثُمَّ يَضْرِبُ بِهِ الصُّوَرَ ، وَيَقُولُ : قَاتَلَ اللهُ أَقْوَامًا يُصَوِّرُونَ مَا لَا يَخْلُقُونَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Usamah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I entered the House of Allah (the Ka'bah) with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some pictures there. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Find some water and bring it to me." So I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) with water in a bucket, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began wetting a cloth with that water and striking those pictures with it (to erase them), saying all the while: «Qatala Allahu aqwaman yusawwiruna ma la yakhluqun» "May Allah Almighty destroy people who make images of things they cannot (truly) create."
