The virtue of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "When the blessed soul of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken, I said to a man of the Ansar: Come, let us ask the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (about matters of knowledge), for today they are present in large numbers. Thereupon that man said: O Ibn Abbas, I am amazed at you! Do you think that people will be in need of you (for knowledge), when among the people are those eminent Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who are present at this time?"
Musnad Ahmad bin Mani': 4069; all the narrators of its chain are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is narrated from the Successor Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I have kept the company of fifty or seventy elder Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there was not one of them who, on meeting Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) (in a discussion on a matter of knowledge), would oppose him; rather, they would say: "The matter is exactly as you have said," or they would say: "You have spoken the truth."
This hadith is sahih (authentic).

It is narrated from Imam Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I have not seen anyone more knowledgeable than Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), nor have I found anyone greater in piety, scrupulousness and avoidance of doubtful matters than Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)."
The chain of this athar (report) is sahih (authentic); Imam Ahmad bin Mani' recorded it in his Musnad, and all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy) and reliable.

It is narrated from Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I was informed on the authority of Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I have not seen anyone surpass Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the utmost veneration and reverence for the sanctities of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. By Allah, if I wished to weep (in remembrance of his greatness) whenever I mention him, I would surely weep."
This report is mentioned in Imam al-Hakim's "al-Mustadrak 'ala al-Sahihayn" (no. 4072); it indicates the eminence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), his asceticism and piety, and his utmost observance of the commands of Allah Almighty.

It is narrated from Imam Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I have not seen anyone who differed with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) (on a matter of knowledge) except that he (through his knowledge, excellence and proofs) brought him to acknowledge his view (that is, he convinced him)."
This hadith has already passed in the chapters of the Book of Hajj.
