حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، ثَنَا أَيُّوبُ ، قَالَ : نُبِّئْتُ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ قَالَ : مَا رَأَيْتُ أَحَدًا أَشَدَّ تَعْظِيمًا لِحُرُمَاتِ اللهِ تَعَالَى مِنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - وَاللهِ لَوْ أَشَاءُ إِذَا ذَكَرْتُهُ أَنْ أَبْكِيَ لَبَكَيْتُ .
It is narrated from Ayyub (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I was informed on the authority of Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "I have not seen anyone surpass Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in the utmost veneration and reverence for the sanctities of Allah, the Blessed and Exalted. By Allah, if I wished to weep (in remembrance of his greatness) whenever I mention him, I would surely weep."
This report is mentioned in Imam al-Hakim's "al-Mustadrak 'ala al-Sahihayn" (no. 4072); it indicates the eminence of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), his asceticism and piety, and his utmost observance of the commands of Allah Almighty.
