بَابُ سعة علم النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

قَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الطَّنَافِسِيُّ ، ثَنَا فِطْرٌ - هُوَ ابْنُ خَلِيفَةَ - ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْلَى هُوَ مُنْذِرٌ الثَّوْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، قَالَ : لَقَدْ تَرَكَنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا تَقَلَّبَ طَيْرٌ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ فِي السَّمَاءِ إِلَّا ذَكَّرَنَا مِنْهُ عِلْمًا .
رُوَاتُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ مُنْقَطِعٌ ، وَاخْتُلِفَ عَلَى فِطْرٍ .
3846 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، ثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ... بِهَذَا .
رُوَاتُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ مُنْقَطِعٌ ، وَاخْتُلِفَ عَلَى فِطْرٍ .
3846 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، ثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ... بِهَذَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) left us in such a state that there was not even a bird flying on its wings in the expanse of the sky about which he (peace and blessings be upon him) had not given us some knowledge, guidance and lesson."
Its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), but this narration is munqati' (broken) in its chain, and there is disagreement in its chain concerning its narrator Fitr bin Khalifah. Imam Abu Ya'la also narrated it through another chain, via Ata', from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) with these same words.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الْهَرَوِيُّ ، ثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ابْنِ أَبِي مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أُعْطِيتُ مَفَاتِيحَ الْكَلَامِ ، وَخَوَاتِيمَهُ ، قُلْنَا : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، عَلِّمْنَا مِمَّا عَلَّمَكَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ، فَعَلَّمَنَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been given the keys to the opening of speech and its concluding words (that is, comprehensiveness of speech, eloquence and rhetoric)." We said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach us some of the knowledge that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has taught you." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us (important matters of the religion).
The chain of this hadith contains Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq al-Kufi, who is a weak narrator; however, the mention of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) being given jawami' al-kalim (concise comprehensive speech) is found in authentic hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ خَلِيفَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ عُرْفُطَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - فَذَكَرَ حِكَايَةً طَوِيلَةً فِيهَا - فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ، إِنِّي قَدْ أُوتِيتُ جَوَامِعَ الْكَلِمِ وَخَوَاتِيمَهُ ، وَاخْتُصِرَ لِيَ الْكَلَامُ اخْتِصَارًا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khalid bin Urfutah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I was sitting with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and then he related a long incident, in the course of which (it is mentioned that) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! I have indeed been given jawami' al-kalim (speech that is brief in words but extremely vast in meaning and import) and all the aspects and perfections of speech, and speech has been gathered and condensed for me with the utmost eloquence."
