It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): What has made you grow old (that is, what is the cause of the white in your hair)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Surah Hud, al-Waqi'ah, al-Mursalat, "Amma yatasa'alun" [Surah al-Naba': 1] and "Idha al-shamsu kuwwirat" [Surah al-Takwir: 1] have made me grow old."
This narration is a sahih mursal; however, it has been described as having idtirab (inconsistency).
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it from al-Abbas bin al-Walid and Khalaf bin Hisham, both of them from Abu al-Ahwas, with this chain.
And Imam al-Tirmidhi narrated it in al-Shama'il through another route, through Abu Ishaq, from Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), in which he mentioned it with these words: "Hud and its sister surahs (those of similarly fearsome content) (have made me grow old)."

It is narrated from Abu Ishaq al-Hamdani that he said: I heard Sayyiduna al-Dahhak bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) recite (this part of the verse of Surah Hud): "taf'alu fi amwalina ma tasha'u" [Surah Hud: 87], that is, he was reading it with the letter "ta", the meaning of which is: "Does your prayer command you that you do whatever you wish with our wealth?"
Imam Musaddad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it with his chain, and this narration explains a particular reading in the recitation of the Qur'an.
