It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umarah bin Ahmar al-Mazini (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "In the Days of Ignorance I was grazing a herd of my camels when suddenly the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or the horsemen of his Companions, raided them. I gathered my camels together and mounted a male camel, but it spread its legs and began to urinate, so I got down from it, mounted one of the she-camels and escaped (capture) on it, while they drove off the rest of the camels. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) returned the camels to me, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) had not yet distributed them (as spoils)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Azhar bin Yazid al-Rahawi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a slave woman ran away and joined the enemy. Then, when the Muslims took her as spoils, the people of the tribe of Murad recognised her, came to Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Our slave woman ran away from us." He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I have no knowledge about this at present, but I am writing to the Commander of the Believers, so wait for his letter." Some time later Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) told them: "The letter of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning your slave woman has come, in which he has given this ruling: 'If the fifth (khums) has been taken out of her and she has been distributed, then the matter will remain so; otherwise return her to her owners.'" They asked: "By Allah! Did Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) really write this?" He (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! It is certainly so, and it is in no way lawful for me to lie."
