It is narrated from Khalid bin Ma'dan (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "cutting off a person's limbs and disfiguring the corpse (that is, mutilation, muthlah)". This report is mursal.

It is narrated from Makhul (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) strictly forbade his armies from mutilating the corpse of any of the (slain) disbelievers (that is, disfiguring it by cutting off its limbs)." This report is mursal (because Makhul is a Successor and narrated directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) without mentioning a Companion), and moreover its chain is criticised because of the presence of Ibn Lahi'ah.
