قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ ذَرٍّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَهُ وَجْهًا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِرَجُلٍ : الْحَقْهُ وَلَا تُذْعِرْهُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ ، فَقُلْ لَهُ : إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُكَ أَنْ تَنْتَظِرَهُ ، وَقُلْ لَهُ : لَا تُقَاتِلْ قَوْمًا حَتَّى تَدْعُوَهُمْ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that "the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him on an expedition in some direction, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man: 'Go after him, and do not alarm him (by suddenly coming up) from behind; rather tell him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) orders you to wait for him, and also tell him: "Do not fight any people until you have invited them (to the religion)."'"
وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى - هُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ - عَنْ ثَوْرٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَائِذٍ قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا بَعَثَ بَعْثًا قَالَ : تَأَلَّفُوا النَّاسَ ، وَتَأَنَّوْا بِهِمْ ، وَلَا تُغِيرُوا عَلَيْهِمْ حَتَّى تَدْعُوهُمْ ، فَمَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ مَدَرٍ وَلَا وَبَرٍ ، إِلَّا وَأَنْ تَأْتُونِي بِهِمْ مُسْلِمِينَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ تَقْتُلُوا رِجَالَهُمْ ، وَتَأْتُونِي بِنِسَائِهِمْ .
2019 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، ثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ .
2019 \ 2 - وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، ثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الْفَزَارِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ ، فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ فِي إِسْنَادِهِ .
It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin A'idh (may Allah have mercy on him) that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out a military detachment, he would say: "Win the hearts of the people, deal with them gently and patiently, and do not attack them until you have invited them (to Islam); for of all the households on the face of the earth, whether those living in houses built of clay or the nomads living in tents of hair, that you should bring them to me as Muslims is far dearer to me than that you should kill their men and bring me their women (as captives)." Imam al-Harith also narrated a similar hadith through his own chain, but he did not mention Abd al-Rahman bin A'idh in his chain.
وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْثًا إِلَى اللَّاتِ وَالْعُزَّى ، فَأَغَارُوا عَلَى حَيٍّ مِنَ الْعَرَبِ ، فَسَبَوْا مُقَاتِلِيهِمْ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، أَغَارُوا عَلَيْنَا بِغَيْرِ دُعَاءٍ فَسَأَلَ أَهْلَ السَّرِيَّةِ فَصَدَّقُوهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : رُدُّوهُمْ إِلَى مَأْمَنِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ ادْعُوهُمْ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army towards al-Lat and al-Uzza (to demolish the idols). They raided a tribe of the Arabs and took their fighters and offspring captive. Those people said (in the presence of the Messenger): "O Messenger of Allah! These people attacked us without (first) inviting us (to Islam)." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) questioned the members of that expedition, and they confirmed their account, whereupon he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Return them to their place of safety, and then invite them to Islam."
