قَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرُ بْنُ حَازِمٍ ، ثَنَا الزُّبَيْرُ بْنُ الْخِرِّيتِ ، حَدَّثَنِي نُعَيْمُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ قَالَ : رُئِيَ يَمْسَحُ خَدَّ فَرَسِهِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَاتَبَنِي فِي الْفَرَسِ .
1983 \ 2 - وَقَالَ يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الرَّاوِي عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ ، ثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْخِرِّيتِ ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ الْبَارِقِيِّ .
1983 \ 2 - وَقَالَ يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الرَّاوِي عَنْ أَبِي دَاوُدَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ ، ثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْخِرِّيتِ ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ الْبَارِقِيِّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Urwah al-Bariqi (may Allah be pleased with him) (as narrated by Nu'aym bin Abi Hind al-Ashja'i) that he was seen wiping the cheek and face of his horse. When he was asked about this, he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed Jibril (peace be upon him) reproached me concerning the care of the horse."
Yunus bin Habib, the student of Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, recorded another chain of this hadith in which it is stated explicitly that Nu'aym bin Abi Hind narrates this report from the Companion of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Urwah al-Bariqi (may Allah be pleased with him).

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، قَالَ : أَصْبَحَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَمْسَحُ عَرَقَ فَرَسِهِ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي عُوتِبْتُ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي الْخَيْلِ .
Imam Musaddad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Yahya informed us by way of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Ansari, who narrates from a man of the Ansar, that one morning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was wiping the sweat of his horse (with his blessed hand). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Last night I was reproached concerning horses (their care and kind treatment)."
وَقَالَ عَبْدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْوَاقِدِيُّ ، ثَنَا سَلِيطُ بْنُ يَسَارِ بْنِ سَلِيطِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ مَرْيَمَ بِنْتِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَعْدٍ بِنْتِ سَعْدِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَهِيَ وَالِدَةُ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : مَنْ حَبَسَ فَرَسًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى كَانَ سِتْرَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever keeps a horse in the path of Allah Almighty (for the purpose of jihad), it will become a screen protecting him from the Fire of Hell."
وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ، ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْسَحُ وَجْهَ فَرَسِهِ بِكُمِّهِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ هُشَيْمٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بِلَفْظِ : يَفْتِلُ عُرْفَ فَرَسٍ بِأُصْبُعِهِ . فَلَعَلَّهُمَا حَدِيثَانِ .
( 85 ) حَدِيثُ : إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَا يُخَبِّلُ أَحَدًا فِي دَارٍ فِيهَا فَرَسٌ عَتِيقٌ ، فِي سُورَةِ الْأَنْفَالِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ مِنْ طَرِيقِ هُشَيْمٍ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بِلَفْظِ : يَفْتِلُ عُرْفَ فَرَسٍ بِأُصْبُعِهِ . فَلَعَلَّهُمَا حَدِيثَانِ .
( 85 ) حَدِيثُ : إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَا يُخَبِّلُ أَحَدًا فِي دَارٍ فِيهَا فَرَسٌ عَتِيقٌ ، فِي سُورَةِ الْأَنْفَالِ .
Abu Zur'ah bin Amr bin Jarir narrates from his grandfather Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping the face of his horse with the sleeve of his blessed shirt."
Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded this same report through Hushaym from Yunus with these words: "He (peace and blessings be upon him) was twisting and grooming the forelock of a horse with his blessed finger." So it is likely that these were two separate incidents.
Also, in another hadith it is narrated: "Indeed the devil does not derange or harm anyone in a house in which there is a pure-bred, noble horse." It is mentioned in the exegetical discussions of Surah al-Anfal.

وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ : هَلْ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ فِي الْخَيْلِ شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، سَمِعْتُهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to him and asked: Have you heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say anything about horses? He replied: Yes, I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Goodness has been tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection."
وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ ، ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْجُبَيْرِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ الْجُبَيْرِيَّ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ، وَأَهْلُهَا مُعَانُونَ عَلَيْهَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Goodness has been tied to the forelocks of horses until the Day of Resurrection, and their owners are helped by Allah in their care and expenses."
