قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ قَالَا : " تُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ لِأَرْبَعٍ : لِجِمَالِهَا ، وَمَالِهَا ، وَحَسَبِهَا ، وَدِينِهَا ; فَعَلَيْكَ بِذَاتِ الدِّينِ وَالْخُلُقِ ، تَرِبَتْ يَدَاكَ ! " .
هَذَا مُرْسَلٌ حَسَنٌ .

It is narrated from Ata and Yahya bin Ja'dah (may Allah have mercy on them) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A woman is married for four motives: her beauty, her wealth, her lineage and her religion; so hold fast to a woman of religion and good character, 'taribat yadak' (may your hands be covered in dust, i.e. may you prosper)!"

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ جَعْدَةَ يَرْوِيهِ ، قَالَ : " خَيْرُ فَائِدَةٍ اسْتَفَادَهَا الْمُسْلِمُ بَعْدَ الْإِسْلَامِ امْرَأَةٌ تَسُرُّهُ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا ، وَتُطِيعُهُ إِذَا أَمَرَهَا ، وَتَحْفَظُهُ فِي مَالِهِ وَنَفْسِهَا إِذَا غَابَ ".
It is narrated from Yahya bin Ja'dah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best benefit (and possession) a Muslim gains after accepting Islam is a righteous wife who delights him when he looks at her, obeys him when he instructs her in something, and guards his wealth and her own self (and chastity) when he is out of sight."

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزَّاهِرِيَّةِ ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " ثَلَاثٌ قَاصِمَاتُ الظَّهْرِ : فَقْرٌ دَاخِلٌ لَا يَجِدُ صَاحِبُهُ مُتَلَذَّذًا ، وَزَوْجَةٌ يَأْمَنُهَا صَاحِبُهَا وَتَخُونُهُ ، وَإِمَامٌ أَسْخَطَ اللهَ تَعَالَى وَأَرْضَى النَّاسَ . وَإِنَّ بِرَّ الْمُؤْمِنَةِ كَمَثَلِ سَبْعِينَ صِدِّيقَةٍ ، وَإِنَّ فُجُورَ الْفَاجِرَةِ كَفُجُورِ أَلْفِ فَاجِرَةٍ " .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say these words: "Three things break the back: destitution and severe poverty in which a person finds no means of comfort; a wife in whom her husband places full trust but who betrays him; and a ruler who displeases Allah Almighty while trying to please the people. And indeed, the righteousness of one righteous believing woman is equal to the reward of seventy truthful (siddiqah) women, and the sin of one wicked woman is equal to the sin of a thousand wicked women."
Abu al-Yaman corroborated this hadith from Abu Mahdi, i.e. Sa'id bin Sinan, and Imam al-Bazzar narrated it in his Musnad.

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، ثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ ، عَنْ زُهَيْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّمَا النِّسَاءُ لُعَبٌ ، فَمَنِ اتَّخَذَ لُعْبَةً فَلْيُحَسِّنْهَا ، أَوْ فَلْيَسْتَحْسِنْهَا ".
It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Hazm (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Women are (because of their natural delicacy and gentleness) a source of delight, so whoever takes one of them into his companionship (as a wife), let him treat her in the best manner, or appreciate (her good qualities) from the heart."
Imam al-Harith bin Abi Usamah (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded this narration in his Musnad, and its intent is to encourage living with women with kindness, generosity and graciousness.
