بَابُ الْكَلَامِ فِي الطَّوَافِ

قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أَطُوفُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ وَقَفَ وَتَبَسَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، رَأَيْتُكَ وَقَفْتَ وَتَبَسَّمْتَ ؟ فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَقِيَنِي عِيسَى يَطُوفُ مَعَهُ مَلَكَانِ ، فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيَّ ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he related: Once I was performing tawaf with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) stopped and a smile spread across his blessed lips. I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I saw you stop while walking and smile (what is the reason for it)?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I met Isa (peace be upon him); he was performing tawaf accompanied by two angels. He greeted me with salam, and I returned his salam."
وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ ، ثَنَا شَرِيكٌ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ وَهُوَ يَحْدُو وَعَلَيْهِ خُفَّانِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : مَا أَدْرِي أَيُّهُمَا أَعْجَبُ ، حِدَاؤُكَ حَوْلَ الْبَيْتِ ، أَوْ طَوَافُكَ فِي نَعْلَيْكَ ، قَالَ : قَدْ فَعَلْتُ هَذَا عَلَى عَهْدِ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ ، رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ يَعِبْ ذَلِكَ عَلَيَّ .

Imam Abu Ya'la (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) related: I saw Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) performing tawaf around the House of Allah while chanting camel-driving verses (huda') (in a flowing voice), and he was wearing leather khuffs. Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him (in surprise): "I cannot tell which of the two is stranger: your reciting these verses around the House of Allah, or your performing tawaf in your footwear?" He replied: "I did this in the time of one who was far better than you, namely the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not find any fault with or object to this act of mine."
