It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever any Muslim spends a pair (of wealth or goods) in the way of Allah Almighty, the angels at the gates of Paradise, holding fragrant flowers, rush towards him and call him to themselves: O servant of Allah! O Muslim! This deed is pure good."
In the narration of Ibn Abi Umar there is this detail, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said this while Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) was seated in his (peace and blessings be upon him) gathering: "Whenever any Muslim gives some charity in the way of Allah Almighty, on the Day of Resurrection the angels will come with fragrant flowers to the gates of Paradise and call him: O servant of Allah! O Muslim! Come here." At this Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, can any ruin or loss ever come upon the wealth of such a man? (That is, will he remain safe from every kind of loss?) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have strong hope from Allah that you will be among those fortunate ones."
