قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قَبِيلٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مَالِكَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : أَنَّهُ جَاءَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى عُثْمَانَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : لَا تَأْذَنُوا لَهُ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ ، فَقَالَ كَعْبٌ : ائْذَنْ لَهُ أَصْلَحَكَ اللهُ ، فَأَذِنَ لَهُ ، وَبِيَدِهِ عَصًا ، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : يَا كَعْبُ ، إِنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَوْفٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - تُوُفِّيَ وَتَرَكَ مَالًا ، فَمَا تَرَى ؟ قَالَ : كَانَ يَصِلُ فِيهِ حَقَّ اللهِ ، فَلَا بَأْسَ عَلَيْهِ .
فَرَفَعَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - عَصَاهُ فَضَرَبَ كَعْبًا ، وَقَالَ : كَذَبْتَ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي هَذَا الْجَبَلَ ذَهَبًا أُنْفِقُهُ وَيُتَقَبَّلُ مِنِّي ، لَا أَذَرُ خَلْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْئًا . وَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ يَا عُثْمَانُ سَمِعْتَ ؟ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : يَا كَعْبُ ، مَهْ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي أَجِدُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ الَّذِي حَدَّثْتُكُمْ ، قَالَ اللهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : يَمْحُو اللهُ مَا يَشَاءُ ... إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ . قَالَ : فَإِنَّ اللهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - مَحَاهُ ، قَالَ : فَإِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ تَعَالَى .
قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي هَذَا الْجَبَلَ ذَهَبًا فِي الصَّحِيحِ دُونَ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ ، وَدُونَ قَوْلِ عُثْمَانَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ .
فَرَفَعَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - عَصَاهُ فَضَرَبَ كَعْبًا ، وَقَالَ : كَذَبْتَ ، سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَقُولُ : مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي هَذَا الْجَبَلَ ذَهَبًا أُنْفِقُهُ وَيُتَقَبَّلُ مِنِّي ، لَا أَذَرُ خَلْفِي مِنْهُ شَيْئًا . وَإِنِّي أَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ يَا عُثْمَانُ سَمِعْتَ ؟ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : يَا كَعْبُ ، مَهْ ، قَالَ : إِنِّي أَجِدُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ الَّذِي حَدَّثْتُكُمْ ، قَالَ اللهُ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - : يَمْحُو اللهُ مَا يَشَاءُ ... إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ . قَالَ : فَإِنَّ اللهَ - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ - مَحَاهُ ، قَالَ : فَإِنِّي أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ تَعَالَى .
قُلْتُ : حَدِيثُ مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ لِي هَذَا الْجَبَلَ ذَهَبًا فِي الصَّحِيحِ دُونَ هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ ، وَدُونَ قَوْلِ عُثْمَانَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and sought permission to enter. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) (at first) said: "Do not give him permission." Then he sought permission again, and Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "O Commander of the Believers! May Allah set your affairs right, give him permission." So he was given permission, and at that time he had a staff in his hand. Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Ka'b! Abd al-Rahman (bin Awf) (may Allah be pleased with him) has died and left (much) wealth. What is your view about this?" Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) replied: "He used to fulfil the right of Allah (zakah and sadaqah) in this wealth, so there is no harm upon him because of this wealth." On hearing this, Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his staff, struck Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) with it and said: "You have spoken falsely! I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'I would not like to have this mountain as gold, which I spend (in the way of Allah) and which is even accepted from me, and then leave behind even a speck of it.'" Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked three times: "O Uthman! I ask you by Allah, did you hear this saying?" He replied: "Yes." Then Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Ka'b! Enough." Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I find written in the Torah exactly what I told you." Whereas Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: "Allah erases what He wills and confirms (what He wills), and with Him is the Mother of the Book" (Surah al-Ra'd: 39). Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, has certainly erased it (that ruling)." At this Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said: 'Astaghfirullaha ta'ala' (I seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty).
I (Ibn Hajar) say: The hadith about the mountain of gold is in the two Sahihs, but without this long story and without the mention of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) having heard this saying.
