Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 89 — Prohibiting one without wudu from touching

It is narrated from Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm that in the document which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had written for Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him to Najran, these instructions were written: "No one should touch the Noble Qur'an except one who is tahir (in a state of purity, clean and with ablution); no man should pray while he is 'aqisun sha'rahu (having braided his hair or tied it back in a bun); and no one should sit in ihtiba' (drawing his knees up to his stomach and holding them with his hands or a cloth) in such a way that nothing (no covering) is between his private parts and the sky."
Takhrij and grading: Ishaq bin Rahwayh narrated this hadith in his Musnad (89); Imam Malik also recorded it in the Muwatta (468), Imam al-Nasa'i in (4857) and Imam Ibn Hibban in (793). According to the scholars, this narration is sahih and authoritative because of its fame and the Ummah's acceptance of it.
