Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 763 — The two Eid prayers

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَنْبَأَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - قَالَ : كَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "The prayer of the two Eids (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) used to be performed before the sermon."
Imam Ahmad bin Mani' narrated it, and the chain of this report is sahih (authentic) because all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); moreover, its meaning fully agrees with the hadith of the two Sahihs which state explicitly that in the Prophetic Sunnah (peace and blessings be upon him) the Eid prayer came before the sermon.
