حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، ثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ النَّجَّارُ؛ لِأَنَّهُ اخْتَتَنَ بِالْقَدُومِ " .
It is narrated from Imam Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "He was named 'al-Najjar' (the carpenter) only because he circumcised himself with a 'qadum' (that is, a sharp-edged tool like an adze)."
