It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Indeed, the wise and far-sighted are those who pray the witr in the early part of the night, and those who pray the witr in the last part of the night are the strong and vigorous."
[A sahih athar (report). Imam Musaddad bin Musarhad narrated it in his Musnad; it is munqati' (broken) because Ibrahim al-Nakha'i did not hear from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him); however, its meaning is fully in accordance with other reliable and sahih narrations.]
