وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، ثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ وَلَمْ أُوتِرْ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّمَا الْوِتْرُ بِاللَّيْلِ قَالَ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثًا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ : اذْهَبْ فَأَوْتِرْ .
It is narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! Morning has come and I was not able to pray the witr." At this he (peace and blessings be upon him) said three times: "The witr is only an act (to be performed) at night." Then on the third time (after saying the same), he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go, and pray the witr now."
