وَقَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، ثَنَا الْمُخْتَارُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَطَرٍ قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ جُلُوسٌ مَعَ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ : أَرِنِي وُضُوءَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ! فَدَعَا قَنْبَرًا فَقَالَ : ائْتِنِي بِكُوزٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ، فَغَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ وَوَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا ، وَأَدْخَلَ بَعْضَ أَصَابِعِهِ فِي فِيهِ ، فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ، وَفِيهِ : خَارِجَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ وَبَاطِنَهُمَا مِنَ الْوَجْهِ ، ثُمَّ حَسَا حَسْوًا بَعْدَ الْوُضُوءِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " كَذَا كَانَ وُضُوءُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
It is narrated from Abu Matar that we were sitting in the gathering of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man requested of him: "Show me the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" So he called (his servant) Qanbar and said: "Bring me a jug of water." Then he washed his two hands and his face three times each and put his fingers into his mouth. Then the narrator related the complete hadith, in which it was also stated: "The outer part of the ears belongs to the head and their inner part takes the ruling of the face." Then, after completing the ablution, he took a sip of water and said: "This is exactly how the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be."
