It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying the Asr prayer during the Battle of Badr, he (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled while in the prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) had completed the prayer, the Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, did you smile during the prayer?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In fact, (the angel) Mika'il (blessings and peace be upon him) passed by me as he was returning from pursuing the enemies of the religion, and there was dust on his wings. He laughed on seeing me, so I (too) smiled at him."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Its narrator Ali (bin Thabit) is matruk (abandoned), and Imam Ibn Hibban accused him of fabricating hadith, while al-Wazi' bin Nafi' is also an extremely weak and feeble narrator. Furthermore, Imam Abu Ya'la also narrated something similar from Ali bin Thabit through Amr bin Muhammad al-Naqid.
