It is narrated from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "On the Day of Resurrection a man will be brought who has good deeds as abundant as firm, lofty mountains fixed in the earth. Then one person after another will keep coming to demand from him some wrong done to him, taking his share of his good deeds, until not a single good deed remains with him; indeed it will reach the point that (the wronged people's) sins will be transferred into his account instead." The narrator of the hadith (Khalid al-Hadhdha') said: I asked Abu Uthman: "From whom did you hear this?" He mentioned six eminent Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), of whom I remember the names of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman and Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with them).
The chain of this narration is sahih (authentic), and its meaning is fully supported by hadith number 2581 of Sahih Muslim, in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) declared the true 'bankrupt' to be the person whose good deeds will be given to others because of his violation of the rights of people.
