It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related (concerning the conditions of the Day of Resurrection) that the people will come to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and say to him: "O Prophet of Allah, you are the great personality through whom Allah Almighty began (religion and guidance) and with whom He sealed (the chain of prophethood), and Allah has forgiven you all your past and future shortcomings. You have come on this (terrifying) day completely secure, while you see our (distressing) state; so stand and intercede for us before your Lord." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will say: "I am the one you seek (who will take up this office)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) will set out, gathering the people (with him), until he reaches the gate of Paradise. He (peace and blessings be upon him) will take hold of the ring (knocker) of the gate, made of gold, and knock, and it will be asked: "Who is this?" The reply will be given: "This is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." So the gate will be opened for him (peace and blessings be upon him) until he presents himself before Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) will ask permission to prostrate and will be given permission. Then it will be called out: "O Muhammad, raise your head; ask and you will be given, intercede and your intercession will be accepted, and supplicate and your call will be answered." The narrator relates: Then words of praise, glorification and exaltation of Allah will be inspired in him (peace and blessings be upon him) such as were never before opened to anyone of creation. Then it will be called out again: "O Muhammad, raise your head; ask and you will be granted, intercede and your intercession will be accepted, and supplicate and your plea will be answered." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) will raise his blessed head and say: 'Rabbi ummati, rabbi ummati' (O my Lord, deliver my Ummah! O my Lord, have mercy on my Ummah!), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) repeated this plea two or three times. Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) will intercede for everyone in whose heart there is faith even to the weight of a grain of wheat, or of a grain of barley, or of a mustard seed; and this is the "Maqam Mahmud" (the most praised station).
This narration is sahih (authentic) and is narrated as mawquf.
